Hello, Potholes State Park

It's Get Out weekend -- and we're checking out Potholes* State Park for the first time!

The area is arid and tall trees in the park are helpful in providing some shade.

The warmer weather does make early morning and evenings the best times to enjoy the place.
Ah, for some peace and quiet :p...

And the highlight of last night's dinner? "Dad caught a fish!" the kids were thrilled to announce!

The walleye we left to cook over the campfire. Also the chicken strips, I seasoned them simply with salt, pepper, and curry powder. Plus some corn and frozen green beans. Everything wrapped in foil packages. I'm learning to pack what is easy to feed us on our camping trips. And relying on shortcuts always, like the instant mashed potato...

Making for an early Father's Day treat for the great dad hubby is! :D

*Why "potholes"?
Because of lava flows millions of years ago: "A powerful combination of natural forces, including glaciers, water, and wind eroded the rock and deposited sand in this area in the form of dunes interspersed with depressions," explains a sign.
