The piping hot soup is especially nice to
have in cold, rainy weather. And ooh, how the flavour just gets richer and richer with more and more ingredients added to it! You see why I was really happy when we chanced on this place that had it on its menu, while in Seattle over the weekend.
Because of my strained back, Vern did the cooking over the hot pot. He cooks maybe twice a year; it's one of those day-to-day housewifey responsibilities I joke I have to bow to his brilliance when he does it once in a very blue moon, haha!

Seriously now, such are the moments worth savouring... YUM! And extra special with it being Valentine's Day also, and the day off from school was all thanks to the President's Day hol. With the winter blues on me, the husband also knew I could use the getting out, more than the usual zipping here and there.
What a treat (vs. me preparing this at home)!
"Love is... taking care of my family", Ben had written below the heart he coloured, posted on the wall outside his classroom with all the other kindergarteners'. His own take on love, was exactly what I needed in the course of another busy day. To remind me, what it is we work hard for -- those we love, and why -- because we love them.
Loving is serving. At Hong Kong Bistro, the husband sweating over the hot pot, and I got to take a backseat and sit back with the children. Of course they weren't sitting down so nicely, but I can't complain!

oh, what a joy when the husband does the cooking. Mine hasnt done it in years!! And yes, its lovely on a cold winter's day. And I know exactly what you mean by "getting out instead of the zipping here and there". Trust you all had a wonderful time during the new year, and of coz on Valentine's as well. *wink, wink*
I luv hot pot too, but not here, HERE I mean. It's one pot hot enough already.
Your back still hurts? =( Be healed, I pray... Keep backy warm and avoid weights asap.
Your Valentine's a real good guy, he's sweet. Bear will never, NEVER cook for me. NEVER!
Healing hugs
awww... Love is taking care of the family - at such a tender age, Ben has it right already. In the days ahead, I could do with remembering this, whenever it all gets a lil' too much. Indeed! Thank you, Ben!! :D
And Vern, bless his kind heart, takes such good care of you when you needed it most. :)
Thanks ladies...
SAHM,
hehe, a bit hard to have romantic candlelight dinner with kids in tow, but i'm glad Vern squeezed in this weekend for all of us to get away some from our usual busyness. of course now we're back to our whir of activities, his work, me and my chores plus kids and their different needs and schedules, yes, that zipping here n there!
i hope you are having a wonderful time with family and catching up with friends and relatives this CNY!
Stardust,
thanks for your prayers for my back, today (Wed) i managed to sneeze my first real sneeze in days, it felt so gd (somehow the muscle i pulled would not let me "sneeze it out", my sneezes kept getting nipped b4 i cd get thru with 'em, it was so uncomfortable!) thank u, thank God :)
now this husbands-don't-cook trend, is it a "traditional" thing? the couple of times a year that Vern sweated over our little charcoal grill in st louis -- to me that counts as cooking lah!;p do men in japan like to do bbqs outdoors, might be a starting pt for Bear? he's really blessed to have u take such great care of him. remember i wrote b4 that loving = serving? that's a choice all of us have to make n make again in marriage, easier said than done tho'!
Jo,
besides Ben's, i also caught two other kids' take on what love is, b4 kait had wriggled out of my grasp n run down the hallway. one said love is... "mom and dad", another had put down "family". Ben's was the one that really spoke to me, 'coz that's what i try and do, been doing since stopping work these years in the states now. the exhaustion is one thing, but it can be quite a thankless job, so amidst the winter blues and weariness, this came as a timely reminder of why we're all busy going abt our day.
"busy but not without a purpose", that was how Yan had put it to me b4. you'll do great, i know, to give your family the best care, we try our best and God will take care of the rest.
bp,
May the new year brings to you and your family added happiness and health!
Hmm.. seems like we have a lot of catching up to do with you busy with the children and hubby, while me with my works and travelling and also still very unsettled eye problem.
But, we know He is in control - I always find comfort in that for my situation, and yours too!
And also the support and the tender loving care from our other half! My hubby went to my apartment in KK the other day and remarked, "I pity you having to stay here alone in such an empty place." Ha, ha, little did he know that I actually enjoy the kind of simple living:)
And of course, to see the children growing up.
We really have so many blessings to count - from the fingers to the toes, we still don't have enough to count them all!
Keep blogging - whenever you can!
Hugs!
Hi Yan, thanks for coming by with your updates and well-wishes amidst your hectic schedules, i really appreciate it! take care with your eye, my dear, i pray it'll be as good as it gets in no time, you're precious in His eyes!
you and your family be blessed too in this Tiger year, and may you keep RRROARING for Jesus! thanks for being an inspiration always, the strength you are and find in Him, unfazed in the face of challenges!
Hi BP, just dropping by to say Hi & Happy New Year!! That hotpot looks yummy! I've never been to that place b4. We usually end up doing hotpot at home. :)
BlurMommy,
Thanks, and a very happy and prosperous new year to you and yours! Your hotpot like all your mouthwatering dishes and lovely bakes must be many times yummier. We walked past this place, I mistook the ad on their door which was for claypot as the steamboat. But just as well they also have steamboat on their menu, most of the other people who came in that night had it, too. It left an MSG aftertaste tho'.
