We did a barbecue... and it worked, to my advantage! I marinaded the meat the night before, did the rest of the preparations on the day itself, then, left all the grilling to Vern (the only cooking he'll tell you he knows to do, but I'm not complaining, erm, not yet)...

We had some classic stuff that's great on the grill, and other things, like fruits, that the kids could snack on, while waiting for the food to be cooked...

But what's a BBQ without some roasted marshmallows, too?
Carolyn and Hope's dad shows us the trueblue boys' scouts way...

but guess which version -- on twig, or skewer, I'm more comfortable eating? ;p
And one thing leads to another... (see that grin on Jon's face?)...

he and Ben do their Bear Grylls (of "Man vs. Wild") thing...

Hope patting Freckles, the neighbour's dog, and that's our tiger lily we planted from bulbs that a friend gave us two years ago...

The kids also played ball, flew some kitchen-roll inspired rockets that Vern had built for Ben earlier that day, but...
The night was still young!
Ben turns on the hose, and the boys and the girls all get wet! One by one, Carolyn's next, every one of them has a go at spraying it at every one else!

And we didn't head back indoors until the fireflies came out to play also!
Then, ending the evening with these Maggie Moo's icecream muffins, that our guests brought... so sweet of them!

Yes, more eating, hehe! =)

oh! Such fun!!! I am envious!! I wish we could do all that here.. nice weather, a big backyard, warm neighbours... very rare combination in this country lah!:)
Wow... u guys had so much fun right in ur own backyard. Looking at all those food made me so hungry. Is hose-spraying a common game at home? That was really fun!
How nice!!! I didn't even wish the fathers in my life "Happy Father's Day". Didn't even realise that it was last Sunday. How terrible, hor?
Btw, BBQ-ing is a man's job lah. And nice food and ice-cream muffins.
How nice! Jomel beats me to say what I wanted to say. I wanna migrate already!
Jomel, Gargies,
Much to be thankful for. Btw, these are friends, not neighbours ... agree that with neighbours, somehow it's not easy to find those to do family stuff with. And with friends, we want to be able to get together before we all go our separate ways.
The biggest downside about being in a home away from home, is not having loved ones within reach -- and it's them, and our dear friends back home, besides other things we miss, and it's just not quite the same here! And that coming from me, just based on our stay overseas, we are after all just "aliens" here.
Slavemom,
Hehe, hose-spraying is just something Ben likes to do, and guess with it being summer, it's all about keeping cool in the hot sun!
Nomadic Mom,
Agree, best to leave the men to do their jobs! It was nice that you got to take a break from your three guys =).
YO! What a spread you have there, I feel like joining the fun! Come to think of it, I haven't enjoyed a BBQ for AGES! Everything you had there looks so goody!
It's so nice to have warm neighbours, I'm so happy for you. Good neighbours make a difference in big ways or small, don't you think? =)
Your kids are really fortunate to have fun-filled days of childhood. =)
Stardust,
Thanks. Umm, actually, these are friends -- the girls' daddy is Vern's friend from school. We don't live in the same neighbourhood, but it's always nice whenever friends can come together, yah?
