It had been another busy week. Among other things, we were getting ready for the Pinewood Derby race.

Seriously?!</title><summary type='text'>Jon turned 11 last week. He was just wishing for snow, when it arrived days after that, over the weekend! Not enough for me to have to shovel (PHEW!); hubby was away again for four days then. Still, I'm thankful it gave the children (who were going, WOOHOO, FINALLY!) and me a little outdoor fun -- and also with a new friend (neighbour) who popped over to play.

The fence that wraps around the backyard -- it's huge!


Frankly, I was a bit worried. Especially when our tween did not need to do a Tom Sawyer for his younger brother and sister to want in on the fun. 


But it was more than just FUN, or FUNNY:

And it was really quite the spectacle and musical experience!


Picture the 2,900 fifth and sixth graders from 35 schools and their instruments taking up almost every inch of the arena floor...


They played to a packed audience of mostly families, their greatest fans, of course!

I plugged in the vacuum cleaner, and Kait went and put on her red winter hat.

She grabbed the duster, and I went and grabbed my phone for a quick picture of my jolly little elf! ;p
